The Challenge 🧩

As the Senior Product Manager for the Search Experience and Search Relevance teams, you will own the full lifecycle of our search product. Your primary objective will be to enhance both the user-facing search experience and the underlying relevance algorithms that drive precision, personalization, and satisfaction in search results. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, data science, and product design to deliver a seamless, intuitive, and intelligent search experience across our platforms.

What You Will Do 👇

Search Relevance and Algorithm Ownership

  • Define the vision: Define a forward-thinking vision that establishes our search as a leader in accuracy, personalization, and conversion.
  • Relevance Strategy: Define and own the search relevance roadmap, including ranking algorithms, query understanding, and intent modeling to provide highly relevant and personalized results.
  • Data-Driven Optimization: Leverage data science, machine learning, and NLP models, among others, to improve relevance, experimenting with various approaches to match user intent with optimal results.
  • Performance Metrics: Establish, track, and report on key metrics related to relevance, such as precision, recall, and click-through rate, continuously refining search algorithms for better outcomes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with data science, engineering, and backend team members to ensure that relevance improvements are feasible, scalable, and performant across multiple platforms.

Search Experience Ownership

  • Define the Vision: Create and communicate a compelling vision and roadmap for the search experience, balancing long-term user needs with short-term performance goals.
  • User-Centered Design: Work closely with UX/UI teams to ensure the search interface is intuitive, accessible, and aligned with modern best practices in usability.
  • Feature Development: Prioritize, define, and oversee the development of key search features such as autocomplete, faceted search, filters, and personalized recommendations to improve search satisfaction and engagement.
  • User Insights and Testing: Utilize methods such as A/B testing, usability testing, smoke tests, and others to iteratively enhance search features and ensure they meet user needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with backend, front-end, and product design team members to ensure that experience improvements are feasible, scalable, and performant across multiple platforms.

Team Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Stakeholder Alignment: Work with senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to align search priorities and initiatives, ensuring that the product roadmap aligns with overall business goals.
  • Team Development: Foster a collaborative, innovative culture within the Search Experience and Relevance teams, mentoring and developing team members to achieve their full potential.
  • Advocate for the User: Serve as the voice of the user, ensuring that their needs and challenges are central to search product decisions.

What We’re Looking For 🔎

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in product management, with a strong focus on search, relevance, and/or personalization technology.
  • Data-Driven Mindset: Strong analytical skills with experience using data to inform product decisions, backed by a solid understanding of key search metrics and testing methodologies.
  • User-Centered Design Approach: Proven experience in creating user-centric features and a deep understanding of usability and design principles for search interfaces.
  • Collaboration Skills: Exceptional cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, with a track record of aligning stakeholders and motivating teams.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage complex projects, with skills in roadmap planning, prioritization, and balancing multiple initiatives.
  • Innovative Mindset: A strong sense of curiosity, creativity, and innovation in search technologies, with the ability to translate complex challenges into meaningful solutions for users.

What Would Be A Plus 🚀

  • Technical Background: Familiarity with search technologies (e.g., ElasticSearch, Solr, Lucene), machine learning, and natural language processing, with the ability to understand technical trade-offs and capabilities.
  • Experience with Recommendation Systems: Knowledge of recommendation algorithms and personalization techniques.
  • Advanced Analytics Skills: Proficiency in data visualization and statistical tools (e.g., SQL or similar).

 

Do note that all our jobs are 📍 Barcelona based.We work in a hybrid model, we offer a flexible work environment where regular office attendance is expected for which the frequency is determined at a team level.

What does the hiring process for this position look like? 👀**Please, note that all interviews take place remotely over hangouts.**

Intro Call - run by talent acquisition, focus on providing more information about the role and the company as well as going over your experience, motivation, and expectations. This usually takes 45-60 minutes.

Case Study Submission - you will be assigned a task to submit within 5 up to 7 days where you will be able to showcase your expertise for the role.

Expertise Interview - run by the hiring team, focus on the required core skills and the ability to deliver in a given context. This usually takes 60-90 minutes.

Stakeholder Interview - run by relevant stakeholders reflecting the reality of the context of the role, focus on the ability to collaborate & deliver in a cross-functional set-up. This usually takes 60 minutes.

Culture Interview - run by culture interviewers, focus on adherence to Wallapop's purpose and business proposition. This usually takes 60 minutes.

Offer - should you be the right candidate, your offer will be discussed over a call with talent acquisition and will then be confirmed in writing.
