Rakuten Tech in Europe, a part of the Rakuten Group's Global Innovation Hub, serves as the regional hub for the European-based members of the Technology Division. We provide and optimize global platforms to support businesses within the Rakuten Ecosystem, tailoring them to specific use cases in Europe and beyond.
With over 130 members across 7 countries and 12 offices, our presence spans France (Paris), Spain (Barcelona), UK (Belfast and London), Estonia (Tallinn), and Germany (Berlin). Membership Platform Section
The European Membership Platform Section is responsible for integrating the Rakuten Ecosystem with European Rakuten Business Units as well as working closely with other Rakuten Europe Teams due to making Rakuten Company stronger in the EMEA region.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Project Manager to oversee technical projects related to software development for Membership and Identity systems. This role involves managing both frontend and backend development projects for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring timely delivery, effective communication, and high-quality outcomes. The ideal candidate will also play a key role in customer support, handling client queries, creating and tracking tickets, and ensuring customer satisfaction.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of software development concepts, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This is a hybrid role, requiring both project management expertise and a customer-focused mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management:
· Plan, execute, and deliver technical projects related to software development (frontend and backend) using Agile (Scrum/Kanban) and Waterfall methodologies.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, designers, and business stakeholders, to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
· Manage project timelines, risks, and resources, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope.
· Prepare and present project updates, status reports, and presentations to various audiences, including senior managers and client business representatives.
· Maintain a repository of team documentation, including project descriptions, integration documents, meeting minutes, and presentations.
Technical Documentation:
· Understand and work with technical documentation, such as architecture diagrams, flow diagrams, and APIs.
· Summarize, amend, and maintain technical documentation for internal and external use.
· Ensure all project-related documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible.
Customer Support
· Act as a point of contact for client queries, ensuring timely and professional responses.
· Create and track internal tickets in JIRA, forwarding requests to appropriate teams and monitoring progress.
· Provide regular updates to clients and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
Collaboration and Communication:
· Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to align project goals and expectations.
· Foster a collaborative team environment and build strong relationships with team members and stakeholders.
· Keep a close communication and alignment with teams in Japan, India and USA, supporting the definition of roadmaps and managing dependencies with focus on achieving goals.
· Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, tailoring messages to suit the audience.
Required Skills and Qualifications
· 3–5 years of experience in project management or a related field, preferably managing technical projects in software development.
· Strong understanding of software development concepts, including frontend and backend development, APIs, and workflows.
· Proficiency in project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Trello, Asana), documentation tools (e.g., Confluence, Microsoft Word, Google Docs), presentation tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Google Slides), and communication tools (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams).
· Familiarity with Agile (Scrum and Kanban) and Waterfall methodologies.
· Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities.
· Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Comfortable communicating with non-native English speakers.
· A collaborative team player with a problem-solving mindset and adaptability to dynamic environments.
· Customer-focused mindset with experience handling client queries and ensuring customer satisfaction.
Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering) or a non-technical field (e.g., Business, Communications) with relevant experience.
· PMP certification or other project management certifications (e.g., Certified Scrum Master) is a plus but not required.
Work Environment
