Travel. It's one of life's simple pleasures. But, ooof, planning it can feel like hard work. For the last 20 years we've been on a mission to empower every traveller with innovative tools, insights and experiences that help people get to where they're going, so they can spend more time out exploring the world, and less time anxiously bouncing around 25 browser tabs and endless spreadsheets. Our traveller-first approach drives everything we do and it's never been more important than it is today.

When we launched as a flight comparison site back in 2003, we changed the game by helping travellers feel smart, like they were in on a secret, that promise hasn't changed. And today, while we're a world leader in travel, with millions of people using our products every single day we know there's so much more we can be doing.

Being part of Skyscanner means joining a team hell bent on building the world's most innovative, and helpful travel experiences possible. We're hugely ambitious and believe we have the chance to genuinely challenge and disrupt the industry.

About the Role:

We’re looking for a seasoned Product Designer, leader, and collaborator with an amazing track record to lead our team focused on our highly impactful user acquisition experience strategy.

You’ll work on finding new ways to help travellers discover evocative new destinations, answer their most crucial questions across flights, hotels, car hire and more to unlock their travel ideas and make them a reality, and in doing so help Skyscanner attract an even larger engaged audience.

In this role you’ll be supporting strategy, collaborating in lockstep with our Content Design, Marketing and Brand Design teams to elevate our homepages, destination hubs and all landing pages to be industry-leading. You’ll achieve this at scale by evolving the landing page design system that also powers our editorial and news experiences, and supporting our work with emerging AI content technology.

Plus you’ll be managing and leading a small team of designers – growing them as individuals and raising the bar on what they deliver.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with peers in leadership within Product, Engineering, Marketing, Brand Design (and other disciplines) to define a strategic vision for what we build, helping us focus on solving user problems by working closely with researchers and SMEs.
  • Collaborating with other design leaders to connect the user journeys across Skyscanner's product ecosystem.
  • Setting the design direction, approach and influencing the future roadmap across this key problem space for Skyscanner – ensuring we create solutions that address clearly defined user needs and support our desired business outcomes.
  • Extending and refining the design system behind all landing page types to showcase our great content to best effect. This will enable delivery of a wide variety of programmatic and editorial content at speed with high standards of design quality and consistency.
  • Leading and managing a small team of designers who work with multiple squads, facilitating their successful and timely delivery.
  • Attracting and developing amazing designers focussing on their growth and enabling them to have impact.
  • Continually raising the quality bar through hands-on design delivery and through design direction for others, crafting, and building world-class consumer facing experiences.

 Key Skills:

  • You're a problem solver at heart who sets a high bar for product design craft and strategy.
  • You have proven experience of managing 2+ designers and a dedication to developing their skills and careers. You know how to get the best out of your team, inspiring them to do their best work and raising the bar for design.
  • You're an advocate for user-centric design solutions and processes applied to both strategy and execution.
  • You’ve been successfully working in complex environments solving difficult product challenges across platforms and use cases to deliver experiences users love.
  • Experience in content marketing and SEO and the associated insight, content and design considerations would be a bonus.
  • You have a strong product design background, with strength in visual craft as well as working across the relevant sub-disciplines (Service Design, Interaction Design, Research, etc.).
  • You remain hands on and are:
    • A master of the tools of your trade, such as Figma, Miro, and prototyping software.
    • Experienced in design systems development.
  • Strength and knowledge in Design Operations and adapting ways of working to address challenges.
  • Insight driven, you are able to define what you need to know, how to get it and show how you use it to help customers and the business.
  • You have experience of:
    • Using generative qual and quant to inform strategic and design direction
    • Showing how great design drives key business outcomes and an ability to use insights, metrics and measures to demonstrate that
    • A/B testing, User Testing, User research, Analytics, Competitor Analysis and more.
  • A fantastic communicator, you know how to work within a globally diverse business.
  • You’ve got a proven track record of managing cross-functional stakeholders applying a structured end to end design process to the problems you tackle and bringing people with you on the journey.

 Portfolio Criteria:

  • A portfolio with best-in-class work that demonstrates your ability to shape broad conceptual ideas into desirable user solutions.
  • We would also like to see your thought process from the hypothesis stage through the final result and the methodologies and frameworks you used.

Following extensive surveys and workshops around our teams needs and preferences, we’ve returned to our offices in a hybrid working pattern: typically that looks like two days in the office, flexible to an individual’s need. As such, this role would be a great fit for someone who lives within commuting distance ofone of our UK and Barcelona offices.
