Job Description

A big part of the researcher's role is helping designers and product people understand our customers and do research right. One of the researcher's key responsibilities is to effectively communicate insights and to raise awareness of our users' problems, wants and needs. Researchers work alongside at least one other designer, and usually with a team of designers. There are 3 researchers in Travelport, all based in Ireland and Spain. This role is in Barcelona, Spain.

Our methods are mainly interviews, moderated and un-moderated testing and surveys. Our Qualitative Research activity is a blend of discovery and evaluative/usability testing. We are building an iterative research process and starting to measure experience metrics by intercepts (using Qualtrics) and a behavioural analytics platform (Fullstory).

Our users are primarily travel agents, developers and back-office operations and administration, working all over the world. As a result, most of our research is remote.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, organising, and conducting research with people who use our products

  • Designing and leading primary and secondary research.

  • Selecting appropriate tools and metrics and tools for measuring experience.

  • Analyse large sample response numbers to produce bias-free, measurable data about our users and their product usage. Measure experience in all the product lifetime cycle. (From prototype user tests to little releases and final production)

  • Create and monitor live data dashboards to communicate and continuously improve our experience metrics. (Intercept surveys and use metrics).

  • Transforming raw scores, numbers, and figures into actionable insights.

  • Advising on the most appropriate research method for a given project and both leading and supporting study design.

  • Collaborating with a variety of stakeholders on research projects and presenting research findings to stakeholders and the wider business.

  • Effectively communicating insights

  • Educating stakeholders about research and enabling them to do their own research.

  • Working with product management and fellow researchers to maintain and deliver of our research roadmap.

Skills and Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience working as a full-time researcher within a design function. You should have a track record of research experience and have solid experience of some core research techniques.

  • We will consider applications from non UX data analysts with a track record of research experience using Fullstory or similar tools and/or measuring experience metrics by survey intercepts. Reason: a full-time quantitative researcher is doing more hands-on data analysis and clustering user funnels/journeys.

  • Excellent communication skills are required for this role. Fluent English, with excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must demonstrate strong relationship building skills. Researchers need to reach across a lot of aisles in Travelport.

  • Excellent organisation and forward planning skills. Good planners make good researchers.

  • Comfortable synthesising insights from qualitative and quantitative data.

  • Bachelor's/Master’s degree in a HCI or Psychology discipline, or experience working in a role with skills transferrable to research.

  • Knowledge of the travel industry would be advantageous.

  • Knowledge of research tools as Usertesting.com, Alida, Qualtrics or similar would be advantageous.

Our team culture

  • Enjoys teamwork and collaboration with designers and non-designers.

  • Curious about our users, our business, and our industry.

  • Open to acknowledge expertise and learn from others, including those outside design.

  • Proactive in sharing their knowledge with others. Travelport is a great place for designers and researchers to learn.

  • Empathy for our colleagues and our customers.

  • Enthusiasm. We have lots of good work to do.
