What does a Product Director for Growth and Traffic do at Busuu?

The person will be a fundamental part of the Busuu business, reporting to the CEO, with a high profile and visibility.

Your role is to lead the Growth Tribe on its mission to clearly articulate our value proposition to our users during their first experience with the product and therefore drive revenue growth.

Entrepreneurial - It’s a pivotal role in the future success of Busuu, and requires the entrepreneurial spirit to discover growth opportunities and lead Busuu’s tribe strategy for the future. Your growth mindset means you’re curious about doing things differently and challenging the status quo.

Your passion for experimentation within your ‘growth-product toolbox’ means you’re able to hypothesize and prove how to add value to Busuu.

Innovation & Product Initiatives - Lead the discovery and launch of Growth & Traffic initiatives. This means cross-functional collaboration in a fast-paced and agile environment with paid acquisition, CRM, SEO, design, analytics, and other functions.

Be a subject matter expert on the Busuu learners, leading early discovery for new opportunities to innovate or optimize for our learners.

Strategic - As a Product Director you will be responsible for defining and prioritizing opportunities for the Tribe, setting the strategy within which the squads operate.

Data driven - you will own our attribution model and will be obsessed with further refining it

You will take overall accountability for the Tribe roadmap, balancing the tribe strategy for the long term with the learner needs in the short term.

Managing people - You will have line management responsibilities for four Product Managers, and this team will grow over time.

Managing internal partners - You will be working cross-functionally with other Tribe leaders, particularly in our Learning Experience and B2B tribes, plus internal stakeholders across marketing, insights and platform.

Managing external partners - As a product leader you’ll also represent Busuu and manage relationships with our partners to encourage a healthy continuous discovery process and understand the wider ed-tech industry space.


What we’re looking for in a Product Director - Growth & Traffic Tribe:

  • You come from a fast-paced, B2C, mobile-first, technology business.
  • You are well versed in growth tactics, especially across Android and iOS native apps.
  • You love to move fast and learn through rapid testing of ideas.
  • You are highly data centric, you are comfortable self serving and modelling data when needed.
  • You are commercially aware, you can understand and explain the business context for decisions.
  • You understand how to use technology to build a competitive advantage in the way we generate and optimise traffic
  • You care about the customers - our learners, teachers and business clients. You inspire others to care.
  • You balance the detail with the big picture, managing multiple levels of communication across Busuu.
  • You are opportunity focused. You see problems and are able to process large amounts of financial data, engagement metrics and industry benchmarks to establish potential paths to success and be able to communicate this within the business.
  • You are open to challenge, and in turn challenging your team; we grow together.
  • You work collaboratively with multiple functions in the tribe to build and deliver the tribe roadmap for the years ahead.
  • You are a great motivator of teams. You’ll understand the energies, development needs and goals of individuals and teams and be able to empathise in order to help drive them forward and become more effective and happy at what they do.
  • You grow teams and are able to scale the growth organisation, building new teams where we can prove an opportunity exists to enable new growth areas for Busuu.
  • You care a lot about people and collaboration, ensuring your teams are happy, healthy and challenged to encourage their development and long term professional development.
