Job Description

Travel. It's one of life's simple pleasures. But, ooof, planning it can feel like hard work. For the last 20 years we've been on a mission to empower every traveller with innovative tools, insights and experiences that help people get to where they're going, so they can spend more time out exploring the world, and less time anxiously bouncing around 25 browser tabs and endless spreadsheets. Our traveller-first approach drives everything we do and it's never been more important than it is today.

When we launched as a flight comparison site back in 2003, we changed the game by helping travellers feel smart, like they were in on a secret, that promise hasn't changed. And today, while we're a world leader in travel, with millions of people using our products every single day we know there's so much more we can be doing.

Being part of Skyscanner means joining a team hell bent on building the world's most innovative, and helpful travel experiences possible. We're hugely ambitious and believe we have the chance to genuinely challenge and disrupt the industry.

Principal Product Manager - AI

We are looking for a hands-on, deeply technical Principal Product Manager with deep expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help shape the future of our AI-powered products at Skyscanner. You will play a key role in identifying high-impact opportunities to apply AI across our products and work cross-functionally to bring them to life. You will guide teams and influence strategy through credible product leadership, working alongside some of the best minds in ML, data, and product. Your work will directly influence the product roadmap and help deliver innovative solutions that enhance traveler experiences and drive business growth.

We are at the forefront of a seismic shift, as generative AI reshapes industries at an unprecedented pace. At Skyscanner, we are an AI-forward company with deep expertise in machine learning, and we are all-in on the transformative power of GenAI – for travelers, partners, and for productivity. This is a rare opportunity to help shape the future at a pivotal moment. We’re making significant investments in AI, yet the landscape remains fluid, offering the perfect environment for a builder who thrives on ambiguity, moves fast, and drives outcomes through influence, not org charts.

As Principal PM in AI, you will stay at the forefront of advancements in machine learning and generative AI and translate these into impactful product opportunities. With a deep understanding of customer needs, market trends, and the rapidly evolving AI landscape, you will develop and deliver cutting-edge AI-driven products. You will represent Skyscanner in internal and external forums, influence our advanced GenAI teams while also working across the company to embed AI-driven thinking into every aspect of our business.

What you will do:

  • AI Product Strategy & Execution: Define and deliver AI product strategy for AI that drives real traveler and business impact; identify and prioritize high-value GenAI opportunities through rapid experimentation.Operate across the stack – from POC to MVP to scaled product.
  • Technical Product Ownership: Shape product requirements for AI features and partner with engineering to bring them to life. Guide decisions around model design, prompts, and scalable deployment. You are not expected to train foundation models, but must credibly go deep on architecture, data, and tradeoffs.
  • AI Innovation & Ecosystem Awareness: Stay ahead of the GenAI curve and translate emerging technologies into product value.Prototype quickly and evaluate external tools and platforms for integration. Know what’s hype and what’s real.
  • Cross-functional partnership: work cross-functionally to align product, data science, engineering, and design. Ensure ethical, user-centric AI is embedded across Skyscanner experiences.
  • Measurement & Optimization: Define success metrics, test rigorously, and continuously optimize AI features. Use data, feedback, and model performance to drive improvements.

What You Bring

  • Proven Product Leadership in AI: Experience delivering AI/ML or GenAI-powered features in production, ideally at consumer scale, with a strong understanding of model capabilities and constraints. You’ve shipped real AI features, not just worked on pilots or decks.
  • Technical Fluency in Modern AI: Confident working with concepts like LLMs, RAG, embeddings, prompt engineering, and inference workflows; able to partner deeply with engineering and data science. You may not write production code, but engineers value your judgment.
  • Hands-On Curiosity for GenAI: Actively follows new AI developments, explores emerging architectures, fine-tunes models, or builds prototypes to validate ideas. You’re a doer, not just a talker.
  • Strong Product Judgment & Execution: Skilled at translating complex technical capabilities into intuitive, valuable user experiences, and iterating quickly based on data and feedback. Can spot PMF early and scale what works.
  • Collaborative and Cross-Functional Mindset: Comfortable navigating ambiguity and aligning across engineering, design, legal, and ethics teams to ship responsibly and effectively. You can influence without hierarchy and move fast in fluid environments.
  • Ethical and Responsible AI Perspective: Understands the importance of fairness, transparency, and bias mitigation in AI systems, and embeds these principles into product decisions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with multi-modal AI (text, images, video, speech).
  • Experience integrating AI into consumer-facing products at scale.
  • Familiarity with reinforcement learning and personalization models.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related technical field preferred.
  • Comfort representing AI work to executives or external audiences – you can inspire with substance.
  • Background in a relevant industry (e.g., travel, search, recommendations, fintech).

You'll join a brilliantly diverse group from all corners of the world. After all, travel is about finding new perspectives and experiencing new people and cultures - and Skyscanner is strongest when our teams are both inclusive and diverse.

Skyscanner is an equal opportunities employer, and all qualified applicants will be considered for employment without discrimination based on protected characteristics such as age, ethnicity, race, religion or belief, political views, sexual orientation, sex, gender (whether identity, reassignment, or expression), pregnancy or maternity, marital status, disability or any other category protected by law.
