Job Description

Eurovision Services is looking for a DevOps / Application Engineer to join the international software engineering team at our technology hub in Madrid, Spain.

The Eurovision Services technology hub in Madrid is responsible for delivering media and broadcast solutions using the most advanced software engineering techniques. As part of the technology team, you will be working with top international engineers specialised in media and see your developments implemented in Tier 1 global sports and news content.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION

In this role as DevOps / Application Engineer you will:

  • Become an expert on certain applications and internal products within the ES services.
  • Be the link between end users and development teams.
    • Your feedback will be key when it comes to promote improvements or best practices in the evolution of the application, products & systems.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the systems where the product is deployed:
    • Lead the deployment of new releases in Production ( new features, hotfixes or any update needed for the continuous evolution of the app)
    • Helping the team to decide which changes will be part of the release and being active part of the deployment execution.
    • Taking care of the incidences and issues affecting the application, doing your best to troubleshoot and help to identify the root cause.
    • But also being able to escalate the issue or involving the team or colleague that could help to fix it.
    • Sometimes it will require to be responsible for logging and tracking incidences and/or service requests into our ticketing system, and assign them to the proper support, dev or expert team.
  • Be able to promote DevOps mindset across the team:
    • Configuring and maintaining CI/CD pipelines that ease the way applications are deployed in the different environments.
    • Continuous improvement is the mantra we like the most!
    • GitOps approach. In God we trust, anything else it must be in Git.
  • Have a lot to say about the best way to monitor the application and systems:
    • As you will be one of the application experts, you will be the first one realizing what kind of improvements can be done at monitoring level.
    • The monitoring stack will be your favourite playground.
    • Share knowledge via documentation and online sessions

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate must have experience working close to software development teams and operation/support teams.

Your skills and experience should be around:

  • Operation and support mindset. It’s great to have experience as L1 / L2 / L3 team member and being familiar with how incidences are managed.
  • System administration skills, in particular being familiar with:
    • Linux infrastructure
    • Databases and distributed systems ( mySQL, Postgresql,…)
    • Any public cloud service (AWS, Azure, GCP,…)
    • Containers and Orchestrator (Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift, …)
    • Any scripting language ( bash, perl, python, go,…)
  • DevOps mindset & methodologies:
    • Any CI/CD tool (Bamboo, GitLab, argoCD…)
    • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
    • Git control versioning (Github, Bitbucket, …)
    • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Familiar with monitoring solutions such us:
    • Logging: Elasticsearch, Splunk, Graylog,…
    • Time series DBs: Prometheus, InfluxDB, Graphite,…
    • IT Monitoring: Centreon, Nagios,…
    • Building dashboards: Grafana, Kibana,…
  • Experience with the Atlassian suite is a plus (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Opsgenie)
  • Strong problem solving, ability to work under pressure with a high sense of urgency.
  • Proactive, self-driven and able to identify improvements to address recurring issues, close monitoring gaps and automate/reduce manual work.
  • Self-management and ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with remote teams.

ADDED VALUE

Additional experience in the following areas would be a bonus:

  • Experience working collaboratively with geographically distributed and international teams (our headquarters are located in Switzerland),
  • Some experience in IPTV/OTT/Media/Broadcast software development projects,
  • Knowledge of digital video concepts (container formats, codecs, compression schemes, tools, best practices, etc.)
  • Willing to be up to date in CNCF trends, following communities, forums, meetups.

EDUCATION

Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or similar degree (Master or Bachelor).
