Job Description

The purpose of the Data Scientist role in our risk department is to enhance the company’s decision-making capabilities through data-driven insights. By leveraging machine learning, statistical analysis, and data science methodologies, the Data Scientist will contribute to developing and refining credit scoring models, collection models, product models and portfolio optimization strategies. This position is central to driving innovation and improving our risk management and product processes in a dynamic FinTech environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize credit scoring models using statistical and machine learning techniques.
  • Conduct data analysis to identify risk factors, assess customer creditworthiness, and product behaviour
  • Create reports and visualizations to monitor model performance and portfolio quality.
  • Collaborate with the IT team to deploy and support models in a production environment.
  • Test and fine-tune models based on market changes, customer needs, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

Must-Have Skills:

  • Proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-Learn).
  • SQL skills to manage and analyze data through complex queries.
  • Foundational knowledge of machine learning, including linear and logistic regression, decision trees, and random forests.
  • Experience with advanced ML techniques (e.g., gradient boosting) and libraries such as XGBoost, LightGBM, or CatBoost.
  • Git version control for code management.
  • Solid understanding of statistics (variance, correlation, p-value, t-tests, etc.).
  • Language skills: at least intermediate proficiency in both English and Spanish (for team communication and documentation).

Nice-to-Have Skills:

  • Experience with financial data, especially in lending.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, Seaborn).
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements in Spain and Mexico’s lending sector, with knowledge of data protection laws.
  • Experience with neural networks and deep learning libraries, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Ability to deal with external providers and to communicate in an appropriate & clear manner at different layers of the organization.
