Since 2019, and thanks to the support from the European Commission, OpenNebula Systems has been leading the edge computing innovation in Europe, investing heavily in research and open source development, and playing a key role in strategic EU initiatives such as the IPCEI-CIS and the “European Alliance for Industrial Data, Edge and Cloud”.

We are currently looking for a Cloud Systems Architect to come and join us in Europe as part of our new team developing the next generation management platform for the Cloud-Edge Computing Continuum.

Job Description

Cloud Systems Architects are responsible for designing cloud infrastructure solutions. They work closely with users and use cases to understand needs and translate them into scalable and secure cloud architectures. Architects focus on ensuring that cloud solutions align with project and business goals, comply with best practices, and meet performance requirements. They identify new business, market and partner opportunities by attending events and networking, taking stands at exhibitions and conferences, and responding to incoming leads. They’ll work in an agile environment to design, develop, integrate, deploy, maintain and validate with use cases a new management platform for the Cloud-Edge Computing Continuum. You will also participate in the upstream community, on challenging projects deploying innovative edge/cloud systems.

What you will do

  • Analyzing functional and systems requirements and key case studies for solutions to meet the demands of market segments (e.g. Telco Cloud)
  • Defining the design, roadmap and prototype of cloud-edge architectures for end-to-end integrated solutions that address the needs of market segments (e.g. Telco Cloud)
  • Designing the APIs, interfaces and data formats of the software components of the integrated cloud systems
  • Choosing the appropriate cloud services and technologies for the cloud systems, and creating the documentation and diagrams of the integrated solutions
  • Contributing to and leading the development and testing of the software components, and their integration, deployment and validation using industry use cases
  • Participate in the full cycle of pre-sale activities, including RFP processing, proposal development, direct communications with potential clients, and key prospect management
  • Serve as an evangelist, contribute to community, and advice in the promotion of solutions for the market segments
  • Collaborating with other companies in the cloud-edge ecosystem within international projects and open-source communities. Availability to occasional travel and participation in international events and meetings
  • Writing and maintaining software documentation and project reports
  • Creating an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture
  • Setting clear team goals, delegating tasks and set deadlines for your internal team
  • Deploying agile methodology for geographically distributed international team in design, code, and test-plan reviews to help build robust software and promote knowledge sharing
  • Identifying tendencies and new features that might help enhance current functionality to meet emerging Telco cloud demands

What you will bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in cloud systems development and integration using open-source technologies
  • Strong technical background to be able to understand what products do, how they are architected and how they can be integrated.
  • Experience working with emerging products and technologies.
  • Hands-on experience in managing or contributing to open source projects.
  • Experience integrating computing systems specially related to virtualization, storage and networking.

Experience writing Terraform modules and managing deployments of virtualized infrastructures with Terraform. Experience using public Clouds (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP, etc…), understand the limitations and peculiarities of the networking and storage model of each provider.

  • Experience with Cloud Management platforms and their associated technologies. Understand the implication of managing virtualized infrastructures and the orchestration of the underlying subsystems.
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment following an agile methodology and critical product concepts such as the MVP.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization and to interact with external stakeholders.
  • Multi-tasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable.
