Hi! In Frontiers we want to give a boost to our IT Architecture team in Madrid and reinforce it with a new member, are you interested? We are looking for an enthusiastic hands-on Applications Architect to help us improve the quality, scalability and resilience of our applications in the company.

For us the IT Architecture is not about designing solutions with new fancy cutting-edge technologies. Or at least not only! Our Architects’ main mission is to look after our applications ecosystem, keeping it healthy, well balanced, resilient, and future-ready. You will see the “big picture” and create architectural approaches to guide the development teams walk in the right direction.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and excellent IT skills, experience designing applications, and the ability to develop a unified vision for software characteristics and complex applications ecosystems. It will be also highly valued having formal training in architectural frameworks, like TOGAF. You will join our office in Madrid supporting our Development scrum teams, and working closely with the rest of departments in IT.

What you do

  • Understand the functional requirements for defining the interaction between our applications, services, data storages and synchronization mechanisms.
  • Analyze and design our applications as modular units, focused on how they interact with each other and with users from a data interchange point of view.
  • In collaboration with the relevant IT departments, ensure that the applications ecosystem is modular, scalable, reliable, secure, extensible, available and manageable.
  • Support development teams in the modelling, design, construction, evolution, and decommission of their applications
  • Understand IT trends and are aware of technical and methodological innovations, suggesting the best use of them to follow Frontiers’ IT strategy
  • Understand and promote the best Architectural Frameworks, technical standards and key technologies, to effectively support existing and future business requirements. Develop guidelines and procedures to achieve this goal.
  • Provide technical guidance and coaching to developers and engineers[EdPR1]
  • Understand the challenges of Data Intensive applications, and how to design flexible solutions for data-oriented products

How you do it

  • Create a partnership with scrum teams and POs, understanding the application and business requirements
  • Oversee the Design process for Application. This involves creating models and prototypes, evaluating potential risks and defects, analyzing specifications, and customizing off-the-shelf applications.
  • Provide Technical Support and Training to other IT teams
  • Be knowledgeable and contribute to the IT Architecture big picture, far and beyond applications, including disaster recovery, data integrity, security, infrastructures, communications, business continuity, etc.
  • Create and maintain up to date the documents describing the Applications Architecture of the company, as well as all relevant guidelines and standards.
  • Attend IT conferences and participate in relevant IT and IT Architecture forums where trends and innovations are discussed

What we are looking for

  • Good knowledge of SW Architecture and Applications Architecture frameworks and practices (eg TOGAF)
  • Experience working in an IT Architecture team
  • Excellent knowledge of software and application design
  • Experience in software development and coding in various languages (C#, .NET, Java etc.)
  • Excellent knowledge of UML and other modeling methods
  • Ability to understand complex interconnected systems and grasp functional knowledge with ease
  • Comfortable handling uncertainty in evolving scenarios, able to understand priorities and balance them
  • A technical mindset with excellent attention to detail.
  • High quality organizational and leadership skills
  • Familiarity with Agile framework.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation abilities
  • Analytical mind and strong organization and problem-solving skills
  • MSc/MA in computer science, engineering or relevant field
  • You are willing to Travel to the Frontiers' headquarters in Switzerland occasionally.
  • You have good English skills, we are an international company and English is our working language
