When you ask something, you better ask nicely. In the Internet, this could be translated to : When you ask a question, do it using creative, user friendly and beautifully designed forms. Sound obvious? Well, apparently it’s not that clear since we have been using the same old fashioned and ugly forms during years.Until now.
A Barcelona-based startup known as Typeform is changing the way we ask questions online: they have developed an application that allows us to create innovative, clean and modern forms (or typeforms). And the result is not only a matter of image: typeforms have proved to be more efficient than old-stylish forms –people are more likely to answer something when you ask it in a nice way.
Robert Muñoz, co-founder and co-CEO in Typeform, kindly answered our questions about this innovative company.
1. What is Typeform and who does it target?
Typeform makes it easy to build and share beautifully designed online forms. We call them typeforms, and they mix human creativity with the power of modern, cross-device web technology to create new ways of asking questions online.
Typeform is already used by people all over the world, from a myriad of backgrounds. We’re helping businesses hire the best candidates. Creatives are evolving their craft by receiving great feedback. Professionals are getting the information they need, when they need it. In other words: people are getting to know each other better, and it’s awesome!
2. Why did you decide to create Typeform?
We never really decided, it kind of just happened by accident and then developed gradually through a series of iterations spanning over 4 years.
We tend to see the product as having “a mind of its own”. The whole thing started because a couple of web-design/dev studios (us) were asked to collaborate on a project to put a form into an exhibition space. We did not have the option to just build a normal form (it had to look beautiful), so we tried something completely different. And that’s how Typeform started.
3. What are your expectations for the future?
It’s best to live without expectations, so we try to avoid them. We do however feel that we are really on to something, so we’re constantly excited about being able to move forward every day. Only time will tell where we are really headed. Our vision is to make typeforms (that’s what we call forms) a new standard in form UI/UX and data collection and by extension, a new type of communication tool.
4. We saw you have a nice “Built in Barcelona” logo on your website… Do you think Barcelona is gaining prestige in the International startup scene?
I think it’s definitely gaining prestige, but it still has a long way to go. What is still lacking is a clear high profile success story that people can clearly attribute to Barcelona.
Barcelona is a great place to have a start-up. The lifestyle is a definite pull for talent from other parts of the world, however many startups still struggle to raise capital in the city. It’s not like London or Berlin yet.
5. How big is your team in the Barcelona office? Do you have other team members in another cities?
We’re currently 17 and the entire team is in Barcelona. Working remotely does not really work well for us.
6. How would you describe the work environment?
Relaxed but intense!
We’re currently in the same office we started in, and we’re beginning to burst at the seams. In around 5 months we will be moving to new open-plan premises.
7. What do you look for in candidates for jobs in Typeform?
Expertize in their field, however passion and dedication are a must. We’d prefer to work with good solid developer with a ton of passion to excel and learn more than a know-it-all ninja that is just here for the ride.
8. Which is that special feature someone Must have join the Typeform team?
Same as 7, no?
9. Last words…?
We like to let our product do the talking. Pop over to www.typeform.com and try it out, we’re sure you’ll love it!
