Berlin Startup Life

Twenty-five years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the capital of Germany has become one of the most important political and economic decision centers in Europe, and transformed into a city of art, design, glamour, music and…you guessed it: startups.

Named by Wired among the ten hottest international startup hubs in Europe, Berlin is bubbling with creativity and innovation. Startups such as Citydeal, Jamba, SoundCloud, Clue, Brands4Friends, EyeEm or Wooga were born here –Berlin can be proud of being home of many “hidden champions”.

Due to the special circumstances the city went through during the second half of the 20th century, Berlin has little traditional industry and its economy depends a lot on culture and tourism. During the last years this has lead the government to recognize the potential of the online world for job creation and revenue. Besides that, there is a real sense of community among Berlin start-ups and there are plenty of meet-ups and events such as Startup Camp Berlin, NEXT Berlin, Berlin Web Week, Heureka Conference, Tech Open Air Berlin or IFA.

Curious about life in Berlin? The German capital is without doubt one of the most international cities in Europe and a fun city to live in.

Whatever you like, Berlin has it: spend an elegant evening at the Opera House or go to one of the many guerrilla clubs spread around the city. Looking for some of the city landmarks? Visit Checkpoint Charlie, Schloss Charlottenburg, the Reichstag or Brandenburger Tor, a symbol of division during the cold war.

If you like art and architecture, you will love the Neue Nationalgalerie at the Kulturforum, a masterpiece designed by Mies van der Rohe. Maybe you’d prefer to take a walk around the Tiergarten or, in summer, take a dip in the Wannsee or drink beer in a Biergärten.

According to thelocal.de, a new start-up is founded every 20 minutes in Berlin and the industry is set to produce 100,000 new jobs by 2020. If you’re looking to get a tech job, Berlin could be your way in. At JobFluent, we are aware of it and we want to get you closer to your dream role at your dream city.
